Ok if the Katadyn type product is a little out of your price range like it is for me and you want something simplier take a serious look at LifeStraw   It is by far the best personal water filter on the market.  It has won Invention of the Year by Time magazine.  It can filter a TON of water well, 2000 liters or so.
